Everyone on my friends list stopped playing over the last month, and it hit me like a brick last week. Between friends leaving, lack of content, seeing people get into more fully created DLC areas that are already in the game, and repeatedly discouraging weekly updates that over-concentrate on small fixes (while making them seem earth-shattering and spreading out a 4 bullet point list over an entire month)... I've almost completely lost interest.
And then the recent comments about how old hardware is holding progress back, and looking back to the things that were hyped before release that appear to be nonexistent now... it's frustrating. I also worry about them being able to add big features and content when they keep saying how difficult and time consuming it is to do things like add vault space and fix heavy ammo glitches. They made a point to explain the cumbersome process in both those weekly updates. And we're talking several months for both those changes...
I thought this was going to be "the next step in Halo" that I'd play for years... I don't see that anymore. I'll probably do Nightfalls on Tuesdays until I see what happens with HoW. But I never imagined my expectations would be so low. This game has a fantastic foundation and mechanics, now we're just in wait-and-see mode, wondering if it will build on them.

Hello from the future. Nothing changed lol :)

Actually, I left that post open at the end to go into "wait-and-see mode," and... My opinion has been changed and faith restored because of what Bungie has said and done since I wrote that. HoW fixed nearly every complaint we had in the mechanics and quality-of-life departments. While it wasn't overwhelming in content, you can see by looking at the release timeline up until now that there wasn't a lot of time to do enough to make groundbreaking additions. The initial release phase has now worn off (after launch plus the two announced DLC's) and Bungie has had time to take some big steps. HoW was a big step forward and set the stage mechanically. Now, based on what I've seen/learned, I believe The Taken King will take massive leaps forward. It will hardly be the same game, in the best way possible. I may not play much until it releases, similar to where I was before HoW when I first wrote that, but big things are coming in September - this is where Destiny starts to take the shape we all were hoping for when it was revealed. TTK will be a monster improvement, and quite simply, a game-changer.
-
Hopefully you're right. I know there's a lot of us who hope for that. You'll have to forgive my unbelief in the meantime however. Is there really that much more time between HoW and TTK than there was between TDB and HoW?
-
I get the impression that the Destiny, TDB, and HoW were all woven into a huge, several-month "launch." I think TTK starts a new phase of the game -- like switching off a game and switching on another -- and they have poured all their resources into it. Year One is over along with the stress of launching such an ambitious game. When they separate Year One and Year Two like they have been doing constantly, I really get the feeling they take that to heart. It's on a whole new level. If course, we'll see, but I think the incoming changes are going to be far greater than most realize. They've had time to slow down and do what they're good at, rather than being rushed with the launch-era deadlines.

Is weapon nerfing 2.0 included in your list of groundbreaking changes? Because that easily the most annoying shit they pulled all year long. Anyways, like I said, hope you're right. For all of us.

Not included in the new things coming, but yes, more of continuing to perfect the mechanics. This patch effectively evens all guns out and I'm good with that. I roll with Gjallarhorn and Ice Breaker everywhere I go in PvE, and in PvP, I'm always running around with Thorn, a Shot Package/Aggressive/Max Range shotgun, and a Proximity-Det/3 Tube/Max Radius + Velocity rocket launcher. I'm good with finding new ways to play and this patch is for the best. Total balance.

Agreed, 7 years to develop this? What's the next game going to be like? Hold off some waves to open even more doors? Even more unbalanced annoying pvp? Even shorter raids? At this rate I won't be buying destiny 2

Bumpedy bump bump. Huge potential still

Well said.

You nailed it perfectly.
