My favorites are the flood, fall of reach, first strike and cole protocol. If you like the forerunners you should read cryptum, it is a bit hard to understand and imagine sometimes though, it's almost like a halo book but done in lord of the rings style with the storytelling. I didn't like it at first, but I like it now.

Forerunner Saga, (Cryptum, Primordium, Silentium)-pre Halo CE Fall of a Reach, First Srike & Ghosts of Onyx These are really good IMHO, I haven't read Ghosts of Onyx yet but that is the third book in that series. Ask Lord of Admirals first. There are lots of them to read.
