Why watch someone play something you can play yourself, what is worse is the morons who donate money to these parasites because they think it gives them self worth. Twitch viewer: donates $100 Twitch streamer: thank you (twitch viewers name) for that donation Twitch viewer: OMG HE SAID MY TWITCH NAME, im a "somebody" now. Truly -blam!-ing pathetic.

Once you become a Twitcher, you're officially a failure in life. Basically a jobless loser who relies on donations from other people, while you play video games 12 hours a day. They're meant to be a hobby, not a job. I have more respect for homeless people.

  • So we should just stop buying our favorite band's Albums just because we can listen to them for free somewhere else? I myself would never donate to these people, but a lot of the 'steady' income for these streamers is from their fan base. Why would their fans donate their hard earned money? Because they enjoy the content and want to see it continue into the future (like buying an album helps make the band want to/able to do another album.) And as for homeless people being more respectable..... most homeless are homeless because they refuse to get a job, spend their money on everything they don't need, and blame everything but themselves. They don't try to get a job, they don't try to save what money they do for only the bare necessities, and they generally want to do 'easy' work when they've run out of cash. At least the Streamers put time and effort into their video making, granted they might be enjoying it more than a normal job.... but isn't that what we all want? In the end.... it basically is a job because society has made it into what it is today.

  • That was a good argument. You got me there. I guess it's because I'm so used to video games being played for fun and not as a job (since Twitch is kinda new but I've been a gamer for ~6 years). Everybody dislikes changes I guess, just like how our parent's generation mostly hate video games.

  • Wow, I wasn't expecting such a level head. Thank you for being so calm about it. Like I said, I'm not one of the people who would donate myself, but I think that now you can see why some other people do.

  • Try getting a job when you have no permanent address. You won't. You'd have an easier time being a homeless twitch streamer.

  • Sports are supposed to be hobbies as well, but none of us have a problem with them being careers...

  • Because being good at a sport requires a shit ton more skill than being good at a video game. Being good at a sport means you actually move around and do physical activity, instead on sitting on your ass for hours on end. Being good at a sport means you're actually doing things, instead of role playing as a fictional soldier fighting aliens while in reality you're just sitting down in front of a screen pressing buttons

  • Based on your stats, it is challenging to be good at a video game, as well as based on mine. Out of my group of buddies that I play with I am the best at crucible and I (in my opinion) have mediocre stats, but am in the top 9% for KD ratio. This goes to show that even though I seem mediocre, I am still a strong player compared to many others. The chances of becoming a successful gamer are almost the same as becoming a sports star. I also don't see why excercise has anything to with whether or not something is worthy of being a profession. Developers do the same thing, they sit at a desk and work on the game, and they Are respected for it. I don't see why gaming isn't a worthy profession when compared to sports, or other careers for that matter.

It's just that being good at a video game is a lot less impressive than being good at a sport. Both require hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes, and teamwork, but sports takes it further because it also requires stamina, strength, and courage (to be able to play in front of a stadium filled with tens of thousands of people and not falter). Combined with the fact that sports are more active (the athletes have to move their whole bodies instead of just their hands) and the matches last longer, and it's obvious why being good at sports is prestigious, but being good at a video game isn't. Sports have all the qualities of video games and more, plus they don't require you to be a lazy bastard who sits on his ass all day, plus they keep you healthy and have an effect on your life/physical body.

  • and you're a douche* who feels the need to try to impose his idea of the 'correct' lifestyle on others. That's just like someone who watches TV 4-5 hours a day telling a gamer that all they're doing is wasting their time. It's incredibly wrong and hypocritical. Just because you have a certain definition of fun, doesn't mean it's right..... or wrong for that matter. But you're wrong for telling someone else how to enjoy their life.

  • Yeah. Since when was playing video games a job? And who are the idiots who actually do this? Especially the ones that donate thousands...

  • Anything with a market is a job. Not saying I like these twitchers but if ppl are dumb enough to donate then I can't hate. Consumers drive the markets, unfortunately most are idiots that make supply and demand a useless concept. Perfect example is Destiny. Want a better game? Full of great content? Stop buying DLCs that were part of the original package. Buuuuuuut we don't, I bought the game as is and I'm an idiot consumer just like the rest of us. I had the money to spare but now after playing and feeling like Bungivision is taking advantage I will wait for the exclusive content packages that will save me money. Look at the TTK package, if you wait you can save alot of money. Anyway sorry for the long response.
