It was probably how you worded it man. If you flat out said " do you use anything other than the thorn and matador", you're going to come of like an asshole. If you were to say "hey, what kind of weapons do you like to use in crucible" or something like that, you'd be asking the same question but you wouldn't sound like an asshat.
