I actually have something against Halo... And please hear me out before you shit on me. Okay for those of you who don't know, Bungie made a game back in 1994 called Marathon. This game was revolutionary. It was the first game where you could actually look in any direction, which already made it much more advanced than Doom. Not to mention it has one of the greatest, most in depth sci-fi storylines I think I've ever heard. But that's where things get interesting... In Marathon, you play as a super solider who has to team up with an eccentric AI to defend a human colony on Tau Ceti from a group of alien races, which leads you to helping protect the universe from an ancient entity that could destroy the universe. Remarkably, this sounds pretty damn close to the Halo storyline. Not to mention literally every game mode in Halo that everyone claims is so revolutionary and mind blowing were already in Marathon. Now, am I saying Halo is shit? Oh god no. I actually enjoy Halo quite a bit, and while much of the storyline is not as original as everyone thinks, there's certainly a lot in there that's new and exciting. My problem with Halo is that it is, for the most part, a reskin of an older game, and yet all the Halo fanboys maintain that it's totally one hundred percent original. I guess I just want to see Marathon get some credit as it is an amazing game. Again, I don't hate Halo, I actually do like it quite a bit.

I am going to sh*t on you but I shit gold

Marathon remastered!

There was only like 30 degrees of Vertical aim in Marathon. Bungie have used the "multiple caste alien organization, plus major game changing plot twist" formula since at least Pathways, too, IIRC. Marathon was hardly revolutionary, man.

I did not know this, but Halo has always changed from one game to the next. I've never played DooM or Marathon, but I heard both were pretty awesome. I understand what you're saying though! :D
-
Where does destiny stand then?
-
Sorry I never heard anyone say that, Doom was better than Marathon imho but I liked it. Halo is awesome, I understand what you are saying but every Halo had been innovative.
-
Oh yeah I'm not saying they're not, they certainly add a lot of new things story wise. I still don't understand why people love Doom so much... Nostalgia I guess...

People like Doom so much as without Wolfenstein and Doom arguably their would be no FPS genre, besides it's an awesome game and so is its sequels.

As much as I loved Halo's story/universe, it's pretty much taken from Ring World and and Starhammer.

How do you play halo? A second console? You are a PS user. Not trying to be unfriendly. Just wondering.

I've played it multiple times on my friends 360, plus I've watched walkthroughs of the campaigns.

They should remake Marathon. Halo and Marathon are both amazing (and are both better than doom in my opinion)

Many people don't know this. Thanks for sharing the info! I am a big halo fan. Still play Halo CE, but was aware of Marathon and give much of the halo foundation credit to that game.

Thank you! Somebody else gets it...
