I can see how you might think that, but I disagree that the point of this is to keep people from disagreeing with them.
The people who most heavily use alts are the people who abuse the ability the most, only using those alts to post porn, bait, or do other derogatory things. You only have to remember that people like NoiselessPurse, Nubbin, and Dorit (amongst others) exist. Bungie does not benefit at all in terms of sales or overall public outlook by doing this, so I find it hard to believe that this was not due to the idiots who have ruined the fun for everyone else.
I'm not saying it is a good thing or a bad thing. I'm just saying that perhaps your discontent should be directed more towards the members at fault rather than the company. Bungie is just a group of individual people like you or myself, trying to do what any company should do.
Additionally, the actual amount of people that this affects is much smaller than the 1%, assuming that actually is the percent of active accounts not tied to Destiny. But all it really takes is any console where Destiny is provided and any account can be made valid.
The only people who will actually be restricted are either those who choose to be or those who do not own a console at all, the latter being a tiny fraction of 1% of people on these forums. Those are the only people who should be complaining justifiably. And they should be enraged by the alt-abusers.
