My story idea (this is gonna get long):
First story mission begins with an assault on a Cabal base. Show more guardians than just the player's fireteam, either through ships or tanks bombarding the base, or random flashes from snipers taking out some Cabal heads. Occasionally this will come with small snippets of dialogue. This is important in showing that guardians aren't some three man army otherwise the war would have ended a long time ago. Eventually, the base would be breached and the player's fireteam would enter. A vanguard (likely Cayde) re-iterates the mission objective, take out the last powerful figurehead for the Cabal in the system. Players make their way through the base, with scripted events happening all the way to keep the players on edge. Make sure to show the cruelty of the Cabal if possible. They reach a large room, where the Primus or Val'us or whatever is meant to be. Instead, the room begins to flash with explosives. The players are made to run before they detonate. Once they make it outside, the Cabal have retreated into their ships. The last ship is shot down. Ghost says to Cayde over the comms, "I thought Cabal weren't meant to retreat." There is no response. Ghost attempts to contact him several more times, but cannot. The mission ends. A cutscene plays, showing Cayde's communication desk or whatever empty. Instead, the camera pans through the tower, showing people running and grabbing weapons. Ships being prepared with missiles or whatever. The cutscene ends showing the Vanguard grouped around a monitor displaying a massive Cabal fleet entering on the other side of the solar system. The next mission sees the player return to Phobos. A vanguard outpost has been secretly set up there, the newest social space. This space is specifically said to be the furthest out from the Tower the vanguard have ever built. Here, the guardian is made to do a few menial tasks. Have the people here seem confident and happy before sirens go off. Missile strike. Whoever has a ship is made to run. The player gives his ship up to retreating civilians and attempts to run away on foot. They make it to a cave with something cool in it. Cabal dropships fly over, but drop no troops. They fire a bit more at the outpost and fly off. The guardians ship returns and transports them to a larger carrier ship of some description. The people here have just seen months of work flattened in a few minutes. They're crushed. Mission ends. Cutscene shows more senseless acts of violence by the Cabal. Next mission begins with the player's return to Mars for a patrol. A couple of filler fights, before the players follow some Cabal into a relic iron mine. The mine has tight, dark halls. Bring some spookiness into it. Make it feel claustrophobic. Shaft opens up into a huge area. Cabal have formed a small defensive line, protecting some psions at a computer at the back of the area. Guardians barely make it into the room before the floor begins to shake. The room changes, revealing warmind-like patterns. Ghost chips in. "Charlemagne's vault... I don't believe it." Racks of weapons line the room. The Cabal force the guardians back with the weaponry. Ghost talks to the player as they run. "Whereas Rasputin was based on strategy and defence, Charlemagne was built for more... unconventional situations. For instance, if humans ever wanted to invade other worlds..." Mission ends after a few more firefights. Next mission (titled 'Of Kings and Emperors' ay) begins with bombardment of the Cosmodrome. Fallen are fleeing the sinking ship. A Ketch appears above the Cosmodrome, bearing the House of Kings insignia. Ghost tells you to make a beeline for it. Guardian makes it aboard, only to find themselves surrounded by Fallen. A Baron of the Kings steps forward. He wears a noticeable contraption over his mouthpiece. He speaks, in English. He tells the player of the mighty emperor of the Cabal and the second fleet. Ghost attempts to question his knowledge but the Baron doesn't answer. He proposes that the House of Kings will work with them for the duration of this problem, in return that the City forgets their 'past grievances.' Cutscene ends as the players exit the Ketch. Bombardment stops and the mission ends. I can't really think of anything else for specific filler missions, except to show the constant brutality of the Cabal's onslaught. Show Charlemagne's weaponry in action and the King's at war. The Reef can get involved too, but less than in previous DLCs. Kill a few bosses here and there, see some explosions and have a few casualties. Eventually, the Cabal destroy Mercury in revenge for the Vex's actions on Mars. Osiris returns to the Tower, his disciples in tow. Massive fight between the various parties in the Tower over whether to let him stay or not. Shaxx threatens to leave the Tower and the Vanguard caves. Osiris is sent to the reef, where he is welcomed. Osiris makes contact with the guardian and sends them on a few missions to Vex strongholds to get whatever information they can. Don't quite know how to wrap up that side plot. Eventually, Charlemagne and Rasputin go toe-to-toe. Charlemagne wins, but Rasputin seemingly self-destructs to destroy Charlemagne's warsats. The Cabal are revealed to have taken over a Vex stronghold. The Forge of Gods. With this technology, combined with the remnants of Charlemagne the Cabal begin to invade the other planets. A few strikes to defeat some bosses, before one of the last story missions beginning. The guardians are captured and sent to the Emperor's flagship and made to fight in an Arena. They escape, -blam!- shit up and make their way to the Emperor's throne room. Boss fight with a Primus and the Emperor escapes. Raid in the Vex stronghold. Awesome mechanics of the Vex raids combined with the Cabal's military. Kill the emperor. Last story mission after, tie up some loose ends. Last cutscene begins. The Baron from the Kings is allowed to meet the Speaker. Kings are about to leave but then a shot rings out. The Speaker is shot dead and the Kings fly off. The DLC ends with the Speaker dead, Osiris returned, relationships in the Tower strained, Mercury destroyed, Rasputin dead and a bit more bad stuff. This DLC is the Empire Strikes Back of Destiny (also kind of literally). So yeah, sorry about the long read.
• I'm actually glad that in your story had the Speaker killed off in the end. If you read the Grimoire, you'd actually realize that the Speaker was evil and clearly not to be trusted. In fact, so is the Traveler. If you watch this particular video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5NbEjkkPlI ), it gives you a little bit of insight into the Destiny universe. Although it is technically a theory, it is quite convincing. It really changed the way how I looked at everything in the game and completely altered my perspective on the backstory of who I am and what I'm fighting for exactly. But anyways, Bungie should totally hire you cuz that story idea was awesome.

 • Also, on the last portion concerning the death of the Speaker at the hands of the Fallen and the return of Osiris: That presents the perfect setting to stage a return of Saint-14 (if he is still alive) since he is the Speaker's son as well as was a key figure when talking about Osiris. He, as a commander of the Tower Vangaurd, was the one who recomended Osiris to the Speaker. Saint-14 also is recorded in a transmission to the Speaker after his campaign against the House of Devils, saying that Osiris' mysterious actions concerning the Vex were happening only because of Saint-14's recommendation in the first place and, therefore, it was his responsibility to reign in the warlock. Another cool fact: Saint-14 is regarded by most everyone in destiny to have been the most iconic guardian of the City and was most loved by the people he protected.

 • Excellent idea. This would work really well if he came back a bit insane from his time on Mercury. Then his crusade against the Fallen could be more about revenge and anger than trying to save Earth. Maybe have him go too far during the fighting and he falls to the Darkness, something like that.

 • Yeah, maybe Something like Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight, where we have kill him and keep his fall from grace a secret. If the City found out what has become of their hero, their moral would be devastated. "Die a hero... or live long enough to become the villain" It could go like that or he would really be a pure and just hero that leaves/dies after his work is done.
