I agree with the reasons, gladly.
Unfortunately, I don't agree with the topic.
To be honest, Trials is for those hardcore PVP players that want the best of the best for there efforts, just like raids with PVE players.
Don't get me wrong. You're absolutely right. I agree with the nerfs and all, but I don't think ToO is the problem:
It's the maps.
As we are all aware, each weapon type has a specific range where it's most effective:
HC: Close - Close Medium range
AR -Close Medium Range
PR - Medium -Medium long range
SR - Long Range
However, when a map is chosen, there are many places in that map that are lenient toward the ranges of a certain weapon.
MIDA, or scout rifles in general, are pretty much effective in any range, giving them a good edge over many primary weapons. However, some weapons were OP that those were used instead. So MIDA was like the unsung hero.
Now, all the weapons, and you can quote me here, actually seem balanced (except AR's, o I probably just suck with those. XD)
But due to MIDA's range benefits, it's the ultimate weapon of pure versatility. But I'm not saying it should be nerfed:
Trials is Osiris should have multiple maps every week, preferably ones of all ranges.
It would allow weapons like HC and PR to get in areas where their respective ranges work best, and other places that put MIDA at a disadvantage.
It would allow players to always adapt.
In all honesty, I don't want ToO to be removed. I can definitely see why, but even so, it's a little humiliating and stupid to remove the hardest activity in the game just because you can't balance your own weapons.
Although to be fair, Destiny balance is a lot harder than others, since they're so many weapons and variables.

You scope in at close range and it's chaos. That is why I rock a fusion. It almost perfectly bridges the gap... Well it used to.

I can see why they would be useless in their close to medium ranges, but their damage is still unaffected. So, if a guy somehow works between that disadvantage due to the scopes, he can still use the scout rifle effectively. Though I do agree with the fusion rifle idea. Yea the fusion rifle *almost* hits where the scouts begin to be too close to work well. The only nerfs scouts ever had was to hip firing, so it is pretty bad up close, but yes, doing full damage
