Yes and no. It has its limitations.This is some stuff that otherwise went unsaid because I never really finalized the concept for how an Omolon Pulse Rifle works. When I was designing this weapon, I was considering the possibility of it firing in two shot bursts, making it have 9 total bursts to magazine. However, it was pointed out to me that Smallbore would reduce the ammo count to 15, so I went back to the standard 3 shot burst. This means that the weapon has 6 Bursts per Clip normally, or 5 with Smallbore. Such a small magazine means that every shot needs to count. This weapon also falls into the Low RoF/High Impact Archetype of Pulse Rifles. Since the real worry would be the crucible balance of the weapon, We can mirror those stats and apply how this weapon works. This data may be a little off, but the math should otherwise be correct. The High Impact Archetype of pulse rifle deals 19 bodyshot and 25 headshot damage in PvP. Assuming you are on the last burst of the magazine, your shots will deal 22 bodyshot (19 x .2 = 2.8, rounded up to 3) and deal 30 Headshot (25 x .2 = 5). This means that the final burst alone cannot kill a guardian in PvP, as it only deals 90 of the required 172 damage to kill someone. It remains a 3 burst kill, even if you exclusively land precision hits (75 + 75 = 150, still 22 damage shy of a kill in PvP, meaning your 3rd burst is going to be more-or-less wasted. Further, 75 + 90 [Final Burst] = 165, 7 damage shy of getting that kill). This is 60% of your total magazine, but it does give you some wiggle room as you can land a few bodyshots and still kill in 3 bursts. Now, let's talk about Frenzy. Frenzy adds an additional 10% damage to all bullets fired by Ahk Morn for 9 seconds. This brings the bodyshot damage up to 21 (19 x .1 = 1.9, rounded up to 2) and the precision damage up to 28 (25 x .1 = 2.5, rounded up to 3). This bonus stacks with the bonus damage added into Devouring Impact making the final damage values equal to bodyshot 25 (19 x .3 = 5.7, rounded up to 6) and headshot 33 (25 x .3 = 7.5, rounded up to 8). With Frenzy active, assuming the user lands nearly all precision shots, they can kill someone in 2 bursts using the final two bursts of the clip (84 [Frenzy All Precision Burst] + 99 [Frenzy Devouring Impact Burst] = 183). The math permits room for only a single bodyshot in those last two bursts. That's a very small margin for error when you consider that you will want to keep Frenzy active at all times for its bonuses. It only lasts 9 seconds, so you will need to stay in engagements fairly regularly to maintain this perk. Now, let's touch on that AoE damage with Devouring Impact. With the AoE damage, Torch hammer has roughly the same radius as explosive rounds, possibly a little larger. However, someone in the radius of the explosion will only take bodyshot damage. Players familiar with Explosive rounds knows that the explosion itself cannot proc a precision hit. I am actually assuming that they eventually fix the bug that made it so weapons who had explosive rounds had extreme difficulty landing precision hits against the target they were shooting . Otherwise, this weapon ends up feeling absurdly lackluster as it would block the final burst's ability to do Precision Damage. With the health regeneration, there is currently only 1 weapon that has this: Red Death. This is not that effect. Red Death, in addition to giving you a small amount of your health back, lets your health regenerate at the normal rate. In a sense, Cauterize has this effect as well. Where Frenzy differs is that it triggers health to regenerate and makes that regenerate rate occur faster than normal. No other weapon or armor does it, helping to make this effect stand out as being worthy of an Exotic. That being said, it is not without limitation. As the math has already shown, you need the bulk of every magazine to kill someone without frenzy and you only have a small margin for error. The Devouring Impact perk will actually go unneeded in most PvP encounters since reloading mid-fire fight is a dangerous ordeal. Since this weapon does not automatically replenish the magazine, it becomes a risk-reward weapon in the same vein as No Land Beyond. It has amazing stats on paper, but in practice it requires a skilled hand to shine. The low magazine size, the downsides of the Low RoF/High Impact Archetype, and the reliance on the Devouring Impact burst all call for a measure of skill to become utterly terrifying and it rewards those who have achieved it. The big thing to remember is that Frenzy can only be refreshed by getting kills with Devouring Impact, so players are going to be forced into that gambit if they want to keep the benefits. It can just as easily be lost or even never be triggered in PvP. As for PvE, like any weapon in Year 2, this weapon has its place. It is not a be-all-end-all One-and-done exotic like say Gjallarhorn was in Year 1. It is definately a solid general choice, but still relies on that unique niche of being just about to fail to really shine. Most players will not be comfortable being in this nearly disadvantaged state just to get a small bonus to damage and health recovery. It does, however, live up to its name. "Circle of Death", which I will always be proud of.

  • Thank you very kindly. I have come up with a few different exotic weapon concepts, but this was the only one that ever made it to the point of being nearly complete. I set out with a goal to make an exotic pulse rifle was was radically different than existing ones in the game. I just kept refining the idea and asking the community for help to turn this into something incredible. I cannot fully accept credit for something the community helped to shape and grow. This was just an idea that the community made into my dream pulse rifle.
