Please come to my car dealership. You can give me $35k with out conducting a test drive, with out a consumer reports review and I will choose what car you drive home and with what features. Your logic is insipid. Our dollars are the only way we can really provide feedback to these companies that will actually influence and inform their future actions for our benefit. Withholding pre-orders until proper gameplay trailers and public beta tests are conducted not to mention 3rd party reviews is not only proper but it's one of the few ways we can hold a company accountable. Furthermore video games were being made for decades prior to the phenomenon of pre-ordering- lack of preorders will have no effect on the business cycle of video games. Stop thinking like a child. You may have a job but based on your level of reasoning it would seem to be one involving a fryer and the phrase "Can I upsize that value meal for you?"

People still use Consumer Reports to buy a car? I just type in the following into Google anymore. "NameOfCar problem" If it pulls up a huge list of problems I skip. Bungie has proven for the last 15+ years they can make a game. Do you actually think Destiny 2 is going to be Garbage?

  • You would be surprised. Baby boomers especially really like consumer reports. Will Destiny 2 be garbage? No I don't think it will. However there are key issues, such as peer to peer multiplayer, that if not addressed will cause much of the player base to consider other games rather than beat their heads against the land of red bars and connection errors.

  • LMFAO!!! Comparing a car to a video game. So stupid.

  • The car just happened to be something I know well from an industry perspective. The analogy would have worked just as well with any number of products. The issue is prematurely ceding market power as consumers.

  • I mean, it did not work at with a car. Not sure why someone would even think that would make sense. You can throw whatever BS you want on top of it like "the issue is prematurely ceding marker power as consumers" to try and make it make sense, but it doesn't. It really just sounds stupid.

  • Far more likes than not so apparently others get it. Perhaps your not reading it right or maybe classical logic forms aren't your thing. No worries. Do what you want. I know that I'm an idealist but it's still foolish to preorder when we have no information about the game except for the bad guys name is Gary.

  • I guess my intelligence being much higher I can see that Destiny 2 is most likely going to be on the same lines as Destiny 1. Soooooooooooooo, I can pre-order knowing that I am getting something I want due to it being like something I have. Yes, it is a hard concept and with you being such an amazing idealist, I can't fault you too much for not being able to think at a higher level. No worries.

  • Yep, that must be it. While I foolishly wait for details and gameplay videos before making a rational buying decision, you're so smart that you have peered through time itself and have certain knowledge of the outcome. Gosh I wish I was that smart....

  • It's a Bungie shooter. Preordered. I just want to have a good time shooting aliens with my friends. And I got a Cayde-6 figure to boot. The teaser trailer was enough for me. Just like Star Wars trailers. I don't need reviews to tell me what I like. There are people that hate Star Wars and hate Destiny. Doesn't bother me. Gaming is my hobby and I will always treat it as such. No more, no less.

Let's flip this though. Let's say Netflix offers a new premium channel that for a price of $60 you get access to a show they are working on with Joss Whedon. He is bringing back Firefly and the whole cast, minus Wash and Book. Following their continuing adventures after Serenity and also you could pay an extra $40 for the 3rd season. If you decided to wait the price would jump to $60 before release. You know the characters but nothing about what they would face. Would you be willing to take a chance on a franchise you enjoyed?

  • Bad analogy, it's not like you get a discount for a preorder. You get early access to the open beta, which is a silly preorder bonus since you should be using the beta to see if your interested in the game. If you pay more you get some cosmetic items, yay. A better anolagy would be if you preorder you can watch the show two days early and Nathan will wear different boots.

If your talking about a seasons pass for the two dlcs, your getting like 5 dollars off a dlc at best.

  • Cheers! You as well. I sincerely hope Bungie takes the high road and releases the details that will appeal to people like me. I like Bungie but they made enough large mistakes with years 1-3 that I cannot reward them strictly on faith.

  • I enjoyed year 1, played year 2 because of my group of friends but year 3 really seemed like the were firing on all cylinders. I'm hopeful that Destiny 2 continues that trend. I plopped money down on good faith. Sadly no other franchise currently out or coming soon makes it so I can easily enjoy roaming with others. Borderlands 2 does but most of my friends cannot get past the art style and enjoy the meat and potatoes of how great it is. That may be what is drawing me to D2 more than anything. When I want to enjoy a world by myself I'll play HZD or Skyrim. When I want to share a world there really is only one game to do it in.

  • No, I'm not prepared to drop $35K in your lap for a product, sight unseen. I am, however, prepared to drop $20 to reserve 2 copies of the Limited Edition disc, and pay the rest when I pick them up. Your analogy is not apt. The risk/reward equation is substantially different in those two cases. It's the difference between buying a $2 lottery ticket and betting $1000 on a hand of poker. I'll buy a lottery ticket from time to time, but unless I have a royal flush (in spades) I'm not risking the money on the card game. As for "holding a company accountable": if I don't like D2, I won't buy another Destiny title. That's it. That's the accountability.

  • The analogy is apt. Yes I am employing Reductio Ad Absurdem yet the analogy is nevertheless apt. I respect your right to do as you wish but do not try to convince the masses that it is wisdom. Indicating to a company that one is willing to buy before they have even pitched the product shows one to be either foolish or desperate.
