So if the ISP knows the IP address why can't they go after it?
English
-
ISP's don't have authority to "go after" anybody.
-
Freedom of information act would beg to differ since ddos is actually considered an act of terrorism in most cases even if it's swatting or in a game. Them sweeping it under the rug in the case of people paying money for Luna's it is also shady.
-
But they tell you the attackers ip addess/location?
-
They're not supposed to do that either, there are privacy regulations they have to adhere to. If a client is doing something that violates the agreement they sign with the ISP they can take steps behind the scenes but they're never going to acknowledge it.
-
Ah -blam!- that. So they cant go after the attacker but do they notify the authorities who deal with cyber-crimes?
-
That’s not what they do.
-
But if it affects a customer's service and the safety of others it should.
