I'm not religious, but genesis says light was made before all plant and animal life. Edit: wait, I dun goofed. Light was made on the first and the sun was made on the fourth. I guess the plants just survived off the initial light. Also I'm pretty sure Satan has a lot to do with sin and misery, since he started it all from the get go with the apple.
