Anybody can say they don't know. My grandfather was an atheist, and he was pretty passionate about it for his whole life. He was an engineer who built hydro dams back in his day, so he was fairly intelligent (is the least I can say). In his last months of living, he read the Bible for hours a day, because he didn't know what was going to happen. You need to have faith, and without it, you will never know.
