While I have the utmost respect and gratitude for our Armed Forces, I could not join them. I refuse to kill other human beings who have never wronged me directly or indirectly just because some cowards in office make me. Now, if our representatives would lead us into battle, that'd make a small difference. I would still refuse to kill though. War is pointless. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, so that means that humanity has not yet been able to see. If our country was being invaded however, I would enlist.

  • Well, our country was technically invaded (although we definitely provoked it by messing with Japanese actions in SE Asia), and Germany was about to take over Europe, so that's slightly different, although I see no point in killing an innocent German/Italian/Japanese regular joe. Wars today aren't like WW2. That was the last American war that I would have considered fighting in.

  • You do know there's a such thing as soldiers that do not partake in violence? Like a medic? Combat engineer? Bomb experts? Etcs

  • Medics fight. As do the combat engineers. I'm supply and I'm still given a rifle. To stay out of combat do something that would be more of hospital role. Even the accounting guys go outside the wire. I had 1 for a ds and he manned a .50 cal on a hmvww.

  • Yes, but would I take the chance of not serving in those areas? No.

Say you had a gun for what ever reason and this guy attacked you but you didn't kill him but months later he bombed a plane killing 100s of people how would you feel?

    >implying that the original person is at fault for not killing the individual. >no one can tell the future, never base an argument on a "what if" scenario that is wholly out of your control. In the situation you described, I wouldn't feel the least bit responsible, nor guilty.

  • I think the question he was going for was: if you know a man has the potential and desire to kill, why wouldnt you kill him? (This disregards the notion of taking prisoner, etc, due to the nature of the situation, which is immediate)

  •
if you know a man has the potential and desire to kill, why wouldnt you kill him?
To be honest, having the potential and desire to kill someone does not necessarily mean they will. For example, I have the potential, and desire to kill a few people, but I never will. I will not follow through, unless my life is in mortal danger. Only when my life, or the lives of others are in immediate mortal danger, do I think it's reasonable to use equal force.
