I get it, Bungie. You’re trying to consolidate the player base as much as possible to reduce matchmaking times and enhance general competitiveness.
Here’s the thing: solo players enjoy the solo queue for Iron Banner, Control, and Clash because it’s a different playing experience. We get more 1v1 duels in solo queue, instead of constantly having 2 or 3v1’s.
Constantly tilting your game towards the enjoyment of pre-made fireteams while ignoring solo players alienates a not-insignificant portion of your fan base. We get tired of feeling like an afterthought, or being treated like cannon fodder only useful to enhance the experience of stacks.
Please add solo queue back in. This isn’t the solution you’re looking for.

Freelance should always be an option

Bungie does not seem to understand they will influence more solo players to stop playing PvP. The population will then decline even further than it has already. Perhaps this is their long-term plan -- kill the PvP population and change D2 into a PvE game eventually at the end of the series. If not, then they surely are making a lot of mistakes.

They probably don't have a choice. They see the writing on the wall. PvP has died a very slow death since the beginning of Destiny 2. Sure, it's been slightly revived here and there, but mostly in decline. And it's simply because Destiny's version of PvP doesn't and has never worked. And now with the player base getting smaller and smaller, they simply can't afford to fraction it out. Trials will be the worst. They already aren't cracking 200k and lets be real, a lot of that number is account recovs so the actual number is even lower. I never waited so long for solo queue match times this season for Gambit. Some days I just went in the larger pool just to get my matches over with quicker. Crucible is basically turning into a mode where you either play in a team or just start to ignore it. If they ever do away with power level that and Gambit will be ghost towns.

Didn't your team also have a fireteam of 3?

Really doesn’t matter because iron banner seems pretty strict sbmm

Yup, totally agree. As per usual they have : 1. listened to the hardcore pvp voices and streamers as it suits their play needs 2. Tried to cover up the declining pvp player base by pooling solo’s and groupd

Content creation is hard. If they combine the pools of players, it makes a big pool to draw players from.. What bungie should do is make a better game and create better content to play. That will bring players to the game and create a healthy pool of players to draw from. What bungie does now is puts toxicity together hoping it will fix the problem.. nope.. you gotta put in the work to fix the problem of stale, laggy, pvp matches full of cheaters, hacks, paid carries etc.

I was looking forward to IB so I could grind out Iron Lord. Not anymore, though. Removing freelance is one of the worst decisions they ever made.
