Like looking at perks there should be detailed (% of dmg boosts for time) Its so hard to guess what you wana chase and value of actual perks with general non sense like “moderate damage boost for a while” as the only info on perks.
🤷♂️ Just throwing it out their 🤷♂️
Silly i have to surf the web to get info vs just using the app

I also hate this. use foundry and dim every time I play to see the data. I understand the idea of keeping numbers out of it for new players who may be intimidated but I love that -blam!-. beam all the info into my brain. I would love a setting that allows changes the perk descriptions to include more data but I don't think that will happen.

Welcome to Destiny 2. A game made by a billion-dollar studio that heavily relies on 3rd party info to guide its players on everything.

It is bananas how they’re so cryptic about their weapon traits, lol. Like… why? -
Edited by Gemini Trash: 4/22/2024 2:14:45 PMI agree but Bungie has had this goofy philosophy about wanting players to use items based on feel for the most part. The only result of these ambiguous detail texts have been that the uninformed or unwilling to damage test have just relied on YouTubers to point them to an effective loadout. I would love to see perk effect percentages and reload times become visable in game

"making games is hard"
-
they also need an index which allows you to see all possible rolls for non-craftable weapons. I doubt it's going to happen though, at least not anytime soon
-
This has been an issue since Destiny's inception. I have been crying into the void about this change for almost 10 years now. The last explanation I can remember was them saying something along the lines of, "we want our players to discover how much a perk gives rather than just say it out right." Which to me sounded like a cop-out and that they didn't have the resources to implement it into the game after they had already built it like it is now.

Lazy devs are lazy.🤷♂️
-
Nope. To easy for them to get caught doing stealth nerfs.
-
Its pretty foolish of this company to be so absent that basic info needs to be sourced from 3rd party apps, to really understand exactly what is going on. Its lazy, careless development. Its just common sense to build the game to fully explain exactly what everything does in game, while keeping it simple enough to explain within a sentence or two, what you're getting with any given perk. That's what development is, just as much as building. Its not hard to inform players on the perk itself "30% damage boost for 5 seconds" or something to that effect in description.
-
I think they said a while ago (don't have the actual source cause it was years ago) that the reason they have such vague wording instead of actual percents is so that it's easier to make adjustments. Instead of having to make the adjustment and then re-write the perk description each time they can just change the percent on the backend and keep the perk description the same.
-
Bungie subscribes to the game design bible of "less information protects the unskilled/unknowledgeable player." This is a literal thing where a game intentionally keeps key information hidden from the player so they don't know if they're actually optimal or not, hoping that they feel satisfied with their performance. Without objective evidence showing they're suboptimal, they're less likely to "feel bad" about their specific random loot, reducing frustration due to ignorance. It's an old design philosophy that doesn't really work in the modern era where data is easily accessible through API combing and general testing against mobs, but they're going to keep doing it. Remember how long it took for the weapon stat UI to be expanded? Now remember that they instituted "deterministic recoil" to make the recoil stat on new weapons effectively meaningless? Hidden data is what Bungie wants.

Edited by Seki: 4/22/2024 2:05:32 PMActual numbers/formulas for all perks. And if they consider it overwhelming for newbies, make it a toggle in the settings. (advanced perk descriptions on/off)

Imagine if impact said a damage number and range said a number in meters. That would be crazy.
-
Use Destiny Item Manager. You click on perk and it gives you a detailed info.
-
And put the poor content creators who just look it up on light.gg out of a job? How dare you!
-
A few things that may be causing the issue - Translations. Its the same reason they very much avoid having the exact requirements instead of percentages; they mostly go down this route for quests in case they need an on-the-fly change but cant get the translations done quick - Rounding. 99..5-9 in D2 round to 100 - UI mess, if they kept it exclusively on the inspect screen and only displayed while on the perk this problem mostly disappears (point 1 still relevant though) but if not imagine seeing something like this while hovering over the menu
1|2|3 stacks grant 5|10|15% damage buff
Them being extremely lazy I guess. Wouldn't want to re-type any numbers in case of a nerf or buff lol. -
Agree. They're habitually lazy.
-
If they detailed like that, rick cactus wouldn't exist
-
Edited by IAGNRG: 4/21/2024 9:13:36 PMIirc, they said that they do not include percentages on their perks in case they change the values at some point. Bungie was saying that it is inconvenient to take the time to have to go through and update the descriptions. Regardless of what I think about the above, this was Bungie’s statement.
-
Damage numbers are not present on the perk description because D2 rounds from time to time and no wants to deal with guardian Mara_Sovs_Sweaty_Thighs screaming in the forums and YouTube about the 2 points of damage they lost that RUINED their one phase.
-
Edited by Zodleon: 4/21/2024 9:21:42 PMIt'd nice if we had an option I used in diablo 3 that gave you the numbers in the descriptions of skills. Probably too much work for bungie, but the choice would be nice. Light gg usually has them though so its not a big deal
-
True, to get concrete infos for how perks work you need to have Light.gg open. I wouldn't mind what we have now if it wasn't this vague. Anyway, you want to know something specific now?
-
How about a simple testing dummy with actual distances marked on the floor.
